So, you just got engaged? My huge congratulations to you and your fiancé!
After the initial excitement of telling everyone, and having romantic, snuggly cuddles, talking about your dream wedding day, reality then kicks in.
Your budget (obviously) plays a big part in the decisions you'll make, but sometimes there is an influence, or expectations from others, for what your day should look like.
Let's just STOP RIGHT THERE. In an ideal world, we'd like everyone to be happy, but ultimately what really matters, is that you both have the day YOU want. Perhaps there are compromises to be made, but please promise me you'll stick with what makes your hearts sing.
Make a list of your 'if money were no object' choices, and then work from there.
If you'd love a destination wedding, but feel really you should have your wedding at home so your nearest and dearest can be there, start thinking how to tick both boxes. Perhaps you could talk with those you care about, and ask how they'd feel if you married abroad but had a huge celebration when you got home instead - or what about a theme for your wedding? including as many elements of a destination wedding as possible through your choice of venue, styling, your wedding breakfast menu and cocktail list.
There are so many resources available, to give you ideas and inspiration. There are chat rooms and facebook groups where you can ask for suggestions and advice (or watch quietly from the sidelines and pick up tips). Online supplier directories can also be a fantastic resource, and you'll find that each online directory has it's own style or vibe, so you'll know if you're talking to the right people.
There are SUPERB National wedding magazines, such as Rock'n'Roll Bride, Confetti, and Wedding Venues & Fashion- each offering their own style, as well as quality magazines for your area - which have the benefit of featuring local suppliers and venues.
I cannot emphasise enough how important it is to meet your suppliers, and this is where wedding fairs are such a great resource for finding ideas and people help make your day magical. Your suppliers have a key role in your wedding, so knowing they 'get' you, can be really reassuring.
We're hosting our next wedding fair at Westgate Hall, on 23rd March. Fancy a free VIP Bridal Bag and glass of Prosecco? (er, yes!!!) then make sure you preregister before you come.
Enjoy the planning! xx
