Today we welcome the lovely Cat, who’s business is called Cat Creative.
How did you start? Cat Creative started 8 years ago, after working few years as a graphic designer. At the time, I was designing graphics for local businesses and friends. But it was with my own wedding that I have realised the lack of choice for wedding stationery. I didn’t manage to find something matching our personalities, so obviously I created ours. I enjoyed so much designing our invitations and the world of wedding industry that I decided to launch “Bespoke wedding stationery” as a new service for Cat Creative.
What services do you offer? Cat Creative is relatively a small business and I enjoy offering personal services to my clients. I specialised in stylish and unique wedding stationary, creating something special that reflects you as a couple. I offer a collection of custom designs to choose from as well as bespoke designs service allowing all couples to find something they truly love. I imagine and create custom joyful design such as Save the Date, Invitation, Order of Service, Programme of the Day, Menus, Table Plan, Place cards, Table names and much more. I design all your essentials stationery for your lovely day with matching design collection. I produce also innovative, creative, fun and personal designs and illustrations for all life’s celebration. So from after your wedding, I can create gorgeous stationery for your little one’s birthday, your baby shower, a big celebration birthday, a corporate event or just a casual dinner party.
What the most unique stationery you have designed? My favourite designs to create are colourful and playful, so when my sister gets married, she obviously asked me to design her invitations. Her wedding’s theme was a rustic festival in a field. We came with the idea to develop a fortune teller origami (who didn’t play with it younger?!) as a wedding invitation. It combined illustration of themselves and their passions, and each flap had designs elements revealing all the details of the wedding. The result: an unique colourful, fun and interactive wedding invitation. It gave me motivation to develop further origami invitation. At the same moment I had the chance to meet an amazing couple that was willing to have such origami designs. The Plane Save the Date was born! Followed by the heart origami wedding invitation. These are now my favourites and seem to appeal to most couples too! These are perfect for stand out wedding invitation with a wow factor.
Where are you based and where do you cover? Cat Creative is a small design studio based in sunny Eastbourne, East Sussex. All the design are made from a little corner of my home but they can travel anywhere by post and emails! I am happy to meet in person any couples from East Sussex, Kent, South Surrey and London around a cup of tea and chocolate! All the rest of UK couples are most welcome and a chat over Skype is always appreciated as I like to see and get to know my couples and for them to know me.
Tell us about some of the events/weddings you’ve worked on? I have enjoyed being part of so many couples’ big days, but one of my favourite (after the origami invitations) are the stationery created for the lovely couple of Sharrene and Richard. She had a clear idea of what she wanted (she even draw me a little sketch!) but was still opened to any suggestions too. Their colours scheme reflected the Tartan from his family and they had strong theme about tree (which was a big meaning for her family) and wanted to integrate their fingerprints and birds. They wished to have a very unique invitation with some texture or laser cut (to give a 3D effect). I like when couples have a strong theme or strong elements they wish to integrate into their stationery. It makes it easy to develop invitations, which are truly unique to their personality. The result is a stunning hand cut tree shape with fingerprint heart shape leaves featured on the front and a modern inside look with matching RSVP cards all bespoke at their image.
Where do you get your inspiration from or do you follow any trends? As any designer, I read and follow few main different suppliers in the wedding industry, to check the current trends. However, I never been too keen “to copy” trends, I like to create something unique with a penchant for innovative, colourful, playful and thematic stationery. The few wedding templates suite that I have come from my own wish and tastes. It kind of reflects my own style! But most of my clients come to me for bespoke service when they have a theme or idea that they can’t find it anywhere else. I create something special, unique to their love story that reflects them as a couple.
What do you have planned for the business going forward? I am expanding my celebrating range to babies such as pregnancy milestones cards, prediction cards, baby milestone cards, baby announcement, christening, art print for nursery and personalised quotes. I am developing as well thematic kids birthdays party stationery with downloadable and ready-made invitation, and party decor. These should be available on my website and on Etsy by this summer! I am really excited to share it with you soon!
