Modern Romance Styled Shoot

If you’re getting married in a Village Hall, Tent and Tipi, then you have an amazing blank canvas to create something special. Starry Eyed have put together a styled shoot to illustrate how incredible these canvases can look, especially when given some thought and imagination.

Starry Eyed chose a local hall to them in Ongar - Budworth Hall, which dates back to around 1890. However, prospective brides and grooms hadn’t considered it as a viable wedding reception venue.  We think it easily rivals the cool town halls of East London, at a fraction of the cost! Budwoth Hall boasts beautifully high ceilings, polished wooden floors and well-maintained original features!

Hayley Clements from Starry Eyed talks us through the styled shoot.

The ‘Modern Romance’ theme is just one of our three key themes we offer to couples (bespoke also available of course)! The key palette is soft blush, nude, palest pink with a highlight of rose gold. We created the giant ‘LOVED’ letters and decorated them with retro wallpaper bought at a French brocante market last summer, paper fringing and giant sequins. Winding delicate cooper wire fairy lights through the letters added to the effect! Stringing festoon lights and strands of peach paper chains across the width of the hall helped to create a warm atmosphere and gave a pretty glow to the décor.

Tablescapes were created using blush sequin cloths, doilies and a collected array of crockery- courtesy of The Vintage Sisters. Our wonderful florist on the day (Caron McGuinness of Bloomin’ Wild supplied us with wild and untamed flowers in smoky brown glass bottles. Caron also created a cascading garland for the top table, brides bouquet, grooms button hole and candelabra.

Tea and cake was provided by Lorna Williams from The Vintage Sisters Travelling Teas. Having a high tea with the addition of some bubbles is a great way of feeding a large number of guests without breaking the budget!

Chairs were either left in their bare state- pinched from the concert room at Budworth Hall or were covered with vintage chair covers from Betty Loves Vintage.

The cake was lovingly designed and constructed by Lauren Delpech of French Made cakes. Lauren translated the theme perfectly- a slightly updated version of a naked cake with a drizzle effect and floral decorations.

We hosted an open day weekend after the shoot and were lucky enough to welcome poder de tres- a 3 piece band who hail from Colchester. Singing stripped back versions of classic records went perfectly with the laid back feel of our day.

Chloe Lee (photographer) captured the relaxed, homespun and whimsical vibe of the day!

Our models were Frankie Andrews and Jody Larcombe. Frankie wore a tweed three piece suit from Anthony Formal Wear and Jody wore an ivory lace dress by Katya Katya Shehurina from Rock The Frock Bridal Boutique.

Make-up by Amanda Scruby of AS Bridal makeup, Amanda embraced our natural theme creating a perfectly balanced look forJody- just the right amount of glamour! "I'm always happy to get involved with any project that supports local, small companies.  I love how quirky and unique Budworth Hall is so this just made the shoot all the more exciting for me. I loved the brief for the shoot & felt that a soft, pretty & natural makeup look would work beautifully. It was important to inject a little interest in the form of a pop of colour on the lips which kept the overall feeling fresh and youthful." Says Amanda.

Hair by Charley Goode from Gary Pellicci.  Charley gently curled and pinned jody’s hair- keeping the feel relaxed and ethereal. "At Garry Pellici we love getting chances to support small business and new projects so when we were asked to join in we jumped at the idea! I love the rustic Romantic hair trends that are coming through at the moment and seeing it coming together on this shoot was amazing. At the salon we have been asked for a lot vintage boho bridal styles so to show off my work, this was a fantastic chance!" Says Charley

Hair Adornment from PS With Love. PS With Love create beautiful beaded head pieces that compliment a more casual approach to wedding style.
