Real Wedding: Charlotte & Alex

Charlotte and Alex added a few little touches to their wedding venue and it lookes lovely. Sometimes you don't need a van packed with items; simple touches can also change the venue to make it more personal to you.

Wedding Date: April 2016
Wedding Venue: Hendall Manor Barns, East Sussex

Describe your wedding style... Our wedding was intimate, relaxed, slightly rustic and our sort of perfect.

How did you 'Save the Date'? Our save the dates were very simple. In a chalk board style with all of the relevant information like, names, date to save, venue and time.

Where abouts did the inspiration for the wedding come from? Our inspiration came from the venue itself. It's a stunning venue and lends itself to a relaxed feel with stunning features. We just fell in love with the venue and asked the owners what we could do with the space, but to be honest we only added little touches like lanterns lining the aisle, white rose petals on the tables with clear cracked glass tea light holders, a big wicker heart with fairy lights woven into it (I did that).

Did you stipulate any dress requirements, BYO elements or anything else for your guests to do on the invite? Due to the relaxed feel of the wedding we just asked people to dress comfortably. Our wedding had 70 guests in total and everyone that came were either very close friends or family. Most of the guys came in suits or at least wore a shirt and suit jacket and all of the girls wore dresses. Everyone looked beautiful.

Did you both and/or your guests get creative for the wedding?  I made the wicker heart with fairy lights entwined around it. This heart was the focal point at the end of the aisle. I had tried lots of different ways to create this look and all failed miserably. The end product however was perfect and exactly what I had envisaged.

What did you both wear and why? Alex wore a taylor made suit from Hugo Morris in Brighton. He had never had a suit made before so the whole experience was fantastic. We went together to pick the materials and discuss the cut and style he wanted. Once the suit was made Alex went on his own to get fitted and put finishing touches to it. We did this so that it would be a surprise for me walking down the aisle and seeing him in his suit for the first time.

I wore a Mori Lee dress from a wedding boutique in Uckfield. The dress originally had lace at the top and long straps down the back, however I always dreamed of having a strapless dress. This was made possible by the seamstress removing the lace at the front and the straps making it into a beautiful sweetheart neckline. The style of dress was a mermaid style.

Memorable moments of the ceremony: We had been given so much advice from people about enjoying every moment of the wedding. Some key stages were getting ready with my mum and sister first thing in the morning and then my brothers came and got ready with us too. I will never forget how special that morning was.

The other moments were of course seeing Alex at the end of the aisle and he says his special moment was seeing me walking down the aisle.

Memorable moments of the reception: The other moment was at the wedding breakfast we took a moment to look across the whole room and appreciate every single person there because they were all special to us and they had come to celebrate the best day of our lives.

The other moment was of course the first dance. That memory will live with me forever. I have never felt so happy than I did at that moment.

Award for best moment goes to… This is going to sound very predictable and very cliche but the award for the best moment was when we both said "I Do". We have been together 7years before we got married and had been through quite a lot together. So to finally reach that moment of "I do" was by far the best feeling in the world.

What did you have for music and entertainment? Our entertainment was brilliant. We had a singer/songwriter Rich Lown playing some of his own songs and some covers whilst we had our wedding breakfast. This created the most amazing atmosphere and there were points throughout the meal where people were singing along and generally just enjoying themselves.

In the evening we had a DJ that had been recommended to us by the venue as they had already played at the venue so knew where to set up and this made it all hassle free. They were called southern DJs.

Our wedding breakfast was in keeping with the relaxed vibe we wanted. With both of us being massive foodie people We chose The Secret Restaurant to host our meal. Nicola Whistle was in fact the first and only caterer we contacted because we just knew she used quality ingredients and matched the style of our wedding. Nicola Whistle met with us and helped us decide on the meal choices along with an incredible meal tasting. We had a selection of grilled meats (red wine blackened steak, balsamic glazed lamb, salmon, pork belly with crackling) all presented on huge boards and placed in the middle of each round table of 10people. We had a selection of salads and cooked vegetables to accompany the meat as well as roasted potatoes. We decided this was more interactive and people could eat as much or as little as they liked. There was enough meat for everyone to have a little of each.

People still talk about how amazing the food was at our wedding and we have to agree. Nicola Whistle was so helpful and efficient and the food was truly amazing.

What did you do for Food, favours and drink? Our wedding favours were very fun, we decided that our wedding involved all of our very closest friends and family and we wanted the favours to reflect that. We decided that we would have friendship bracelets as our favour. That way everyone would wear them, not waste them. We have now run a competition with everyone. Whoever is the last Person still wearing their bracelet wins a bottle of champagne. We are now 10 months married and people STILL have their bracelets on.

One of the other reasons we chose our venue was because we were able to supply all of the alcohol and soft drinks for the entire wedding day and evening. We didn't want any of our guests to have to pay for a single thing and just relax and enjoy our day.

Would change anything if you could do it all again? In all honestly we wouldn't have changed a single thing about our wedding. From start to finish it was our sort of perfect. That's why weddings are so great, because everyone can put their own touches to it to suit them and make it their perfect day.
